Simon David Kinberg is a British-born American filmmaker. He is best known for his work on the X-Men film franchise, and has also written such films as Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes.

Simon David Kinberg is an American filmmaker who was born in the United Kingdom. He is best recognized for his work on the X-Men film series, although he has also written Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes. Other films on which he worked as a producer include Cinderella and The Martian, which was nominated for Best Picture Academy Award. Genre Films - Kinberg's production company - had a first-look deal with 20th Century Fox. Kinberg debuted as a filmmaker with the 2019 X-Men picture Dark Phoenix, for which he also wrote a script.

Kinberg sold a pitch to Warner Brothers while still in film school, then went on to develop scripts for Disney, Sony, and DreamWorks, collaborating with Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer, among others. Kinberg relocated to Hollywood after graduating school, and his first screenwriting credit was for XXX: State of the Union (2005), a sequel to the successful action picture XXX (2002). Mr. & Mrs. Smith directed by Doug Liman and starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was his next screenwriting project. Kinberg wrote the script as part of his film school thesis project. Kinberg also penned the pilot episode for ABC's Mr. & Mrs. Smith television adaption.

Kinberg was the writer and producer of This Means War (2012), as well as the producer of X-Men: First Class (2011). In the same year, he was a co-screenwriter and executive producer on the film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Kinberg released Elysium in 2013. Kinberg was the writer and producer of the film X-Men: Days of Future Past the following year. Let's Be Cops was released the same year. Kinberg produced the Neill Blomkamp picture Chappie and the Disney live-action Cinderella in 2015. He also served as a writer and producer on Fantastic Four. The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott, was his penultimate film of the year.

Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and Kinberg have been appointed to write and produce Episodes VIII and IX of the forthcoming Star Wars movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In television, Kinberg is an executive producer on Kiefer Sutherland's Designated Survivor for ABC, Noah Hawley's Legion for FX, and Fox's The Gifted. He executive produced The Twilight Zone, the third reincarnation of the science fiction anthology series, which premiered in 2019. Kinberg and his production business Genre Films announced their departure from Fox in July 2019 after 20 years.
