Is Jared Leto Regarded More Highly as an Actor or Musician

Jared Joseph Leto is an American rock musician & actor, vocalist of the alternative rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. He has directed many music videos under the pseudonym Bartholomew Cubbins. Jared Leto is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award & Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as a transgender woman in the drama Dallas Buyers Club. Jared moved to Los Angeles from New York in 1992 to become an actor. By this time, he has already gained experience in an acting career, & became famous for his role as Jordan Catalano in the short-lived series My So-Called Life.

After filming with Alicia Silverstone in the 1994 TV movie Cool & the Crazy for the project Rebel Highway, his first big-screen role was in How to Make an American Quilt together with Winona Ryder. In 1997, Leto played a role, originally intended for Tom Cruise, in Prefontaine, the story of the life of the legendary runner Steve Prefontaine. 1998 was a successful year for Leto, appearing in Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line as part of a powerful cast that included Nick Nolte, George Clooney & Sean Penn. He also starred in Urban Legend, an adaptation of the horror genre.

Leto returned to the big screen in 1999 with his work in Fight Club & Girl, Interrupted. For the actor, 2000 was the year of dramas & psychological thrillers: he starred in American Psycho & Requiem for a Dream. Leto was approved for the supporting role in the first movie, in Requiem for a Dream he got the main role. Playing a young Brooklyn boy, struggling with heroin addiction, Leto had the opportunity to play in the same cast as Ellen Burstyn, as well as future Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly. Leto has also made a name for himself in two of director David Fincher's most famous films, the acclaimed Fight Club & Panic Room. In the latter, he played the most talkative & bumbling of the three burglars who terrorized Jodie Foster's character.

Despite his achievements in filmmaking, Jared Leto today positions himself primarily as a musician. He is the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars, an alternative band founded by him & his brother Shannon in 1998. There are currently two members in the band. Besides Leto, the music and lyrics writer, vocalist and guitarist, drummer Shannon, the band has included Croatian guitarist & violinist Tomo Milicevic, who left the band in 2018, & the base player Stevie Aiello, who holds live musician status. Which way will Mr. Leto lean in the future? Hard to say. Music seems to be the priority right now, but he has a deep passion for independent films with strong characters. He might be willing to do more acting if he comes across more juicy roles like Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.
